1. Lifestyle and Nutrition
-
Now it's time for you and your partner
to reduce or stop cigarette and alcohol consumption.
- Being overweight not only reduces the likelihood of getting
pregnant, but also raises the probability for
a pregnant woman to get sick.
- Folic acid is the central vitamin needed
for the growth of the nervous system and for the
closure of the channel of the spiral cord within the first weeks of pregnancy.
Already before and up to the third month of a pregnancy you should
take an additional 0.4 mg folic acid per day to protect
your child from developing an open backbone.
- Iodine tablets should be taken during the
entire pregnancy and as long as you breastfeed. Lack of iodine is
very common all over Germany.

2. Inoculation protection = nest protection
Besides inoculations against tetanus,
diphtheria and polio, the most important inoculation is the
one protecting against rubella.
Rubella during the first phase of a pregnancy may cause
serious deformations of the baby.
This is why we
recommend a simple blood test before a planned pregnancy to show if an inoculation is
necessary.
- Toxoplasmosis
is a wide-spread parasite disease mostly transmitted by
cat excrements.
