A lack of iodine is the second most
common deficiency during pregnancy.
Diseases of mother and/or child induced by
the lack of iodine, as for example the development of a
struma (goiter), are unnecessary and avoidable.
Preventing iodine deficiency
Use
only iodized salt and/or iodized salt substitutes.
Choose food
that contains iodized salt.
Eat salt water (sea) fish and drink
milk regularly.
I recommend a daily
dose of one iodine tablet (150 to 200 microgram iodine) to
every pregnant women during her entire pregnancy and also while breastfeeding.
