PRENATAL CARE: Nobody is perfect

  • In the broader sense prenatal care covers all examinations before birth that have to do with the well-being of the unborn fetus.
First and foremost is the ultrasound examination which has no side effects but is sometimes problem-loaded;  on the one hand simple values such as position and age of the fetus are easily determined; on the other hand possible deformities could also be indicated.
  • Strictly speaking, any abnormal ultrasound results found during prenatal check-ups, or high-risk pregnancies will lead to fetal genetic tests.
Using various methods, cells of the placenta (Chorionic villi biopsy), amniotic fluid (Amniocentesis )), cell material or blood from the umbilical cord will be analyzed for their hereditary properties. The results will indicate any possible deformities of the unborn fetus.
