The TRIPLE test is an examination
of the maternal blood. Starting from the 16th week of pregnancy three
hormones in the blood of the mother are determined.
A special computer program then
calculates the risks for the child to suffer from Down´s Syndrome (Trisomie 21,
"Mongolism") or from Spina Bifida (a congenital defect characterized by
the imperfect closure of the spinal column, exposing some of the nervous
system).
