rare that a woman gets chickenpox
for the first time in her life during her pregnancy, as more
than 95% of women contract the disease during childhood and
are therefore protected from a renewed Infection. .
Contracting chickenpox in the first half of pregnancy

Before the
22nd week of pregnancy, a chickenpox infection carries a risk of 2% for congenital
varicella syndrome. Abnormalities especially of the limbs and the skin can occur.
Chickenpox at the end of pregnancy
Contracting chickenpox poses
a danger from 5 days before the birth and up to 2 days
after the birth. In this case there is a 20-30% probability of a serious
or even fatal outcome for the newborn child.
