A depot of gestagen (luteum) is injected into a muscle. During
the following three months this depot constantly emits its active substances.
The injected depot effectively works like the mini pill or IMPLANON: the
cervix mucus becomes impenetrable for sperms; a fertilized egg
will not embed and ovulation is hindered.
