Hormone Rod IMPLANON - Subcutaneous Contraception

The Implanon rod is a new contraceptive method that provides secure and long lasting effects. The high protection level against unwanted pregnancies is reached, because in contrast to the pill there is no need to regularly take tablets.

Effect

IMPLANON is a small plastic rod, that is embedded (after local anaesthetization) into the inside of the upper arm directly under the skin.
As an active substance, the rod contains Etonogestrel (a gestagen hormone). This hormone is stored in a silicone-free plastic rod and is set free slowly in smallest quantities over a period of more than 3 years.

Suitable for...

  • the period between pregnancies.
  • as reversible long-term contraception after completion of family planning.
  • since Implanon does not contain estrogen, it is particularly suitable for women who do not tolerate these hormones or should not take them (e.g. smokers, older than 40, varicose veins).
  • women with difficulty in taking tablets regularly
  • postponing the first pregnancy.

Implanon or Mirena?

The hormone IUD MIRENA is similarly reliable, comparably as expensive and lasts 5 years long, but emits lower amounts of hormones without prehibiting the ovulation.

Whatever best suits you should be discussed personally.
