The intrauterine system MIRENA consists of a small
hormone-releasing cylinder, that is connected to a T-shaped
plastic part.
The soft, flexible plastic material that cannot be felt when in
place, and theT-shape vouch for a safe position in the uterus.
MIRENA looks at first sight like a normal copper IUD. But in place of copper, tiny quantities of levonorgestrel
(a progesterone hormone) are released continuously over a period of
5 years into the
uterus.
Suitable for:
- For all women who want a safe ande
reliable long-term contraceptive method.
- The risk of an ascending Infection of the fallopian tubes
is not increased,as is in the case of the normal IUD, therefore
MIRENA is suitable for young women who wish to have
children later.
- Ideal for women who
donīt mind not having any monthly periods.
Not suitable for:
- Women with a very small uterus
- Women with a very narrow cervix; the fitting of
the IUD may only be possible under anasthesia or may not be possible
at all.
