The Pill
is the contraceptive that is used the most. It
is very reliable and has many additional advantages.
However being a very effective medication it has typical side
effects.
Effect:
The "classic" Pill prevents ovulation (
=
Ovulation Impeder) and thus reliably prevents pregnancy.
Most
commonly
used is the Micro Pill. This Pill is a stable combination of
Estrogen and Gestagen and is taken over a period of 21 days followed by
a pause of 7 days during which menstruation occurs
.
Suitable for...
For every healthy woman who wants a
safe and flexible contraceptive. Furthermore the Pill has also
several positive side effects that might be considered.
Not suitable for...
The Pill increases the
risk of venous and arterial thromboembolic diseases; e.g.
thrombosis, lung embolism or stroke.
This risk might increase
with other influencing factors, in particular smoking,
high blood pressure, overweight and varicose veins.
Smokers who take the Pill, have an
increased risk of getting diseases connected to changes in blood
vessels (e.g. heart attack or stroke).
This risk
rises with age and cigarette consumption.
Women of 35 years
or older, who smoke, should not take the pill.
In these
cases I recommend either a hormone IUD (MIRENA) or
a hormone rod (IMPLANON).
